Dr Harindarpal (“Harry”) Singh Banga is the founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Caravel Group.
Dr Banga founded The Caravel Group in 2013, and has been the key architect in the establishment, growth and expansion of the Group since inception. Dr Banga is actively involved in managing the Group and serves on the Board of (and Chairs) each of the Caravel Group subsidiary companies, as well as all Management Committees.
Prior to founding The Caravel Group, Dr Banga was the Vice Chairman of Noble Group, a leading global supply chain manager of commodity products, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, which he helped to establish in 1989.
Dr Banga was awarded with an Honorary Doctor in Business Administration for his significant contributions to education and the well-being of society from the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in 2020. In addition, he also holds the title of Honorary Fellow of CityU, which was conferred in October 2018. In addition, he is a Member of the Court of CityU, an Honorary Vice President of the CityU Foundation. Dr Banga is also a Member of the Steering Committee of the Capital Campaign programme for CityU.
In January 2011, the then President of India, Mrs Pratibha Patil, conferred the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award on Dr Banga for his outstanding achievements in the field of business, valuable contribution in promoting the honour and prestige of India and in fostering the needs of overseas Indians. Moreover, the Directorate General of Shipping, India and the National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee conferred the “NMD Award of Excellence” on Dr Banga on the 55th National Maritime Day Celebrations in 2018.
In 2019, Dr Banga was recognised and awarded by the Economic Times as the “Most Influential Business Leader of Asia” during the Asian Business Leaders Conclave. In 2015, he was also recognised as the “Best Entrepreneur (Asia Pacific)” in the Times Now-ICICI Bank ‘NRI of the Year’ Awards. Diaspora World designated Dr Banga as one of the “Most Influential Indians” in 2014.
Moreover, for his record of achievements in the maritime industry, Dr Banga has received several notable recognitions, including being honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Bulk Journal in 2016 and a Lifetime Achievement Award by Seatrade Maritime in 2011.
In addition, Dr Banga is the Founder of the Forum of Indian Professionals in Hong Kong, as well as being heavily involved with several charitable organisations across Hong Kong and India.
